About Andrei Mincov
I know.
I can.
I get it done.
If there is one thing you need to know about me, it’s that I know, I can, and that I get it done.
I began my legal career in Russia back in 1994 when my father, a well-known composer, asked me to help protect his copyrights. While I was still in law school, I successfully represented him in a lawsuit against a radio station that used his music in an advertisement without his permission. I call him “my first and favourite client”.
This early spark grew into a passion for protecting creativity and innovation. For several years I worked for a recording company and later became the head of its music publishing department. I earned my PhD in law with a dissertation on international protection of intellectual property and shortly after joined Baker & McKenzie, the largest international law firm. There I became the single point of reference for all matters concerning copyright law and domain name disputes. This position gave me the opportunity to work with the world’s top tech companies including Apple, Microsoft, Sun and Dell.
Over my career I have helped many composers; designers; book writers, including J.K. Rowling; film directors; singers; artists; individual software developers; movie producers, and film companies ranging from small ones to Dreamworks. I have also helped recording companies; electronics manufacturers, including Sony and Motorola; car companies, including Porsche and Ford; apparel companies, including Columbia Sportswear; perfumery and skincare companies, including Amway, L’Oreal and Mary Kay; and a countless number of other clients, big and small. Check out the list of selected former clients and representative matters.
I am a creator myself: I write music and play the piano and the drums. I also code as a hobby. I know PHP, MySQL, and Javascript. In fact, I created this whole website, including its blog script, from scratch in Notepad++. This allows me to better understand my clients’ situations – not just as a lawyer, but also as someone who knows what the situation is all about.
I have saved my clients $10,000’s by providing clear, simple and logical solutions to their problems. In one time-sensitive IP case involving a hacked operating system and online leak, I chose to bypass traditional channels and creatively resolved the entire problem in just 40 minutes. This approach saved my client thousands and thousands of dollars in legal fees. More importantly, it prevented a much greater loss that was being caused by the leak.
Driven by my passion for protecting creativity and innovation and rewarding talent and achievement, in 2011, I founded Mincov Law Corporation, a business law firm for clients who value intellectual property as a legal tool for protecting ideas and creativity.
In June of 2015, to liberate ourselves from archaic regulations that prevented us from offering trademarking services the way the market wants these services to be provided, I relinquished my Canadian lawyer license. Mincov Law Corporation became Trademark Factory International Inc. and is no longer a law firm.
